Monroe, WA – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, Valley General will be hosting a Women’s Health event on September 27 for underserved women in east Snohomish County.

This event is a joint venture between Positive Women’s Network (PWN), a non-profit organization located in Everett and Valley General Hospital. Valley General and PWN are working together to provide quality preventative medicine to underserved women in our community. Collaboration, today in medicine, is a crucial component in creating a healthier population.

With funding from the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Washington Breast and Cervical Health Program (BCHP), this event provides women who are un-insured or under-insured, an opportunity to receive an annual mammogram and cervical cancer screening, as well as receiving important health information. Women receive a clinical exam provided by a volunteer physician, Deborah Nalty, MD of Providence Physician Group Monroe, and a mammogram provided by Valley General Hospital.

This health event will bring awareness that all women over the age of 40 (insured or not) should receive their annual screenings for breast and cervical cancer. The keys to surviving cancer are early detection, education and awareness.

Women qualify prior to the event for the BCH Program by contacting PWN (888-651-8931). Educational materials will also be provided on other BCH Program services. For more information on this event, please contact Monica Sylte, Marketing and PR Specialist, Valley General Hospital, 360-794-1411.
